Our mission is to provide resources for NICU and bereaved families, offering financial assistance, care packages, mental health advocacy and support.
Our vision is to create an environment that is a safe space for bereaved families and families of the most critical infants offering solace in the midst of emotional turmoil.
The Skylar Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by a former NICU and bereaved mother, Est. July 2021, created to honor our heavenly daughter, Skylar. Skylar and our family spent much of the 18 months of her life in the NICU. Through our experience and healing we were able to identify the needs not answered for many NICU and bereaved families. Our Mission is to provide resources for NICU and bereaved families, offering financial assistance, care packages, mental health advocacy and support. Our aim is to assist families who have to walk a path, unfortunately very familiar to our family. There are so many emotions that arise and many challenges faced each day, especially if your baby is critical or has a poor prognosis. Guilt, depression, anxiety, and PTSD are only a few of the mental scars that end up leaving their imprint on the soul. This is where The Skylar Project steps in, we are a grassroots organization with those we serve spending countless days in the NICU. Every dollar raised goes directly into the hands of NICU/bereaved families in our local area. The Skylar Project provides both financial and literal support, as well as serves as a liaison connecting families to other existing resources. The trauma of a child loss or a NICU stay can be overcome with time and support. It is our hope that through sharing our story and experiences and with the provision of appropriate resources that The Skylar Project can offer to others the help we so desperately needed during our darkest chapter.
"Unfortunately, shortly after, Skylar caught a respiratory virus. This sent her to the hospital where she was admitted to the PICU. After admission she was given a gastrojejunal tube to prevent aspiration, after ventilation. The doctor who placed the tube perforated her bowel but because Skylar was on a paralytic to prevent extubation she could not cry and could not show signs of pain...”

“My beautiful daughter Skylar was born three months early and spent a difficult 10 out of the 18 months she lived in the NICU. While in the NICU she spent more than four months on mechanical ventilation, she had multiple surgeries, setbacks, and many triumphs. She was such a relentless warrior."

Giving Tuesday 2023
Thank you again Fox News!
We want to send a HUGE thank you to FOX10 News and reporter Ahniaelyah Spraggs for making space for The Skylar Project to tell our community who we are and what we do. It was such a privilege to discuss Skylar’s story and the efforts our project makes in her honor. We hope you all tuned in and shared the feature as we hope to bring more and more awareness and support to the NICU.
We host many giving events throughout the year, including but not limited to: Annual NICU Lending Library Book Drives, Annual Bereaved Mother's Day Butterfly Releases, NICU Awareness Month Events, and many more!
Care packages and gas cards are given for many purposes, from Kangaroo Care Month supplies, to Christmas giveaways. We gift care bags and gas cards to improve the stressful conditions of a NICU stay.
Funds are what allow us to make a tangible impact. Fundraisers, grants, and private donations all allow us to successfully execute our mission.
